Short answer: Exhibiting in the USA means following each show's and venue's rules: height limits by booth type (for example 8 ft 3 in linear and 16 ft island at SEMA), fire-retardant materials, and venue labour and rigging rules such as those at McCormick Place. Venue rules that shape your stand design in USA

Custom stands fail approval most often on height, fire class of materials, rigging and electrics. These are the rules the venues publish:

SEMA Show (Las Vegas Convention Center)

• Linear booths: maximum height 8 ft 3 in; peninsula and island booths: maximum 16 ft.
• No hanging signs over linear booths except perimeter linear booths (up to 12 ft, flat); signs over peninsula and island booths may be no more than 8 ft tall and finished on all sides.
• All displays must be made of fire-retardant materials and are subject to Fire Marshal approval.

McCormick Place (Chicago)

• Riggers un-crate, position and re-skid machinery; decorators hang signs (McCormick Place Labor Rules).
• Exhibitors may hang their own signs only if no tools or ladders are needed and the job takes no more than half an hour.
• An exhibitor employee (full-time for at least six months) may work in a booth of any size using hand and power tools.

Javits Center (New York)

• All exhibit construction and decoration materials must be fire retardant, with paperwork available on site.
• Double-deck booths are permitted only in specific halls (e.g. River Pavilion, 3A, 3B, 3E).
• Any hanging load must be approved by the Center in advance.

Rules can differ per show: the organiser's exhibitor manual for your fair always takes precedence. We read that manual before the first design sketch, not after.

Shipping a stand from Istanbul to USA

Customs framework: U.S. Customs and Border Protection describes the ATA Carnet as an international customs document for temporary import without duty, valid for one year. The United States allows temporary importation of commercial samples, professional equipment and certain advertising materials; Türkiye is a participating country. Exhibits that go back home: Goods and the carnet must be presented to customs on exit and re-import. If carnet goods are sold or left behind, duties and taxes become payable, so plan separately for any stand parts or samples that stay in the US. (CBP – ATA Carnet FAQs)

Planning timeline for a custom stand in USA

1. 20–16 weeks before: book space, send us the floor plan and stand number; we propose a design and budget.
2. 16–12 weeks before: final design, structural details, material list with fire certificates; check the show manual for contractor registration and labour rules.
3. Drawing deadline (set by the venue/organiser – see the rules above): submit stand drawings; order electricity, rigging and other venue-reserved services through the appointed contractors.
4. 12–10 weeks before: production and pre-assembly in Istanbul.
5. 10–4 weeks before: sea or air freight with the customs documents; the shipping date is fixed first because ocean transit takes several weeks.
6. Build-up days: installation with the venue-appointed partners, final check with you before opening.
7. After the show: dismantling and return shipment of carnet goods before the carnet expires.
