Exhibiting in Germany: venues, fairs and stand rules

Short answer: The main trade fair venues in Germany are Messe Düsseldorf, Messe Frankfurt, Deutsche Messe Hannover and Koelnmesse in Cologne. Stand plans must be approved before set-up, materials must be flame-retardant to DIN 4102 B1 or the EN 13501-1 equivalent, and only the venue or its partners may rig from the hall ceiling. Venue rules that shape your stand design in Germany

Custom stands fail approval most often on height, fire class of materials, rigging and electrics. These are the rules the venues publish:

Deutsche Messe Hannover

• Stand height in a hall, including suspended objects, must not exceed 6.50 m within the stand.
• Design plans for stands of 100 m² or larger must be submitted at least four weeks before stand set-up begins.
• Materials must meet DIN 4102-1 B1 or EN 13501-1 C-s2, d0; only an authorised Deutsche Messe service provider may suspend objects from ceilings.

Messe Düsseldorf

• Dimensioned stand plans (at least 1:100, floor plans and elevations) must be submitted in German or English no later than six weeks before set-up starts.
• Decoration material must be at least building material category B1 under DIN 4102; equivalent EN 13501 evidence may be recognised.
• Only Messe Düsseldorf attaches ceiling suspensions (ordered via 'Suspensions' in the Online Order System); main electrical connections are made by Messe Düsseldorf.

Messe Frankfurt

• Fully dimensioned plans in PDF format must be submitted no later than six weeks before set-up starts.
• Materials must be flame-retardant class B1 (DIN 4102) and/or class C s2 d2 (EN 13501-1); overhead materials C s2 d0.
• Suspensions from the hall ceiling may only be handled by Messe Frankfurt and its contracted companies.

Rules can differ per show: the organiser's exhibitor manual for your fair always takes precedence. We read that manual before the first design sketch, not after.

Shipping a stand from Istanbul to Germany

Customs framework: Türkiye and the EU have been in a customs union for industrial goods since 31 December 1995 (Decision 1/95). Stand materials made in Istanbul therefore move into Germany without customs duty when they travel with an A.TR movement certificate. Since 8 July 2024 EU member states accept A.TR certificates issued electronically with a QR code. (European Commission – EU–Türkiye trade; European Commission – electronic A.TR (2024))

Exhibits that go back home: Products you display and take back to Türkiye can travel on an ATA Carnet (temporary admission for goods at fairs and exhibitions). Consumables and stand parts that stay or are used up on site cannot go on a carnet; they are declared separately. We confirm the right document set with the customs broker for each shipment. Planning timeline for a custom stand in Germany

1. 16–12 weeks before: book space, send us the floor plan and stand number; we propose a design and budget.
2. 12–8 weeks before: final design, structural details for double-deck or rigged elements, material list with fire certificates.
3. Drawing deadline (set by the venue/organiser – see the rules above): submit stand drawings for approval; order electricity, rigging and other venue-reserved services.
4. 4–2 weeks before: production and pre-assembly in our Istanbul factory, then road or sea freight with the customs documents.
5. Build-up days: installation, electrical connection by the venue's contractor, final check with you before opening.
6. After the show: dismantling, return shipment or storage of reusable parts.
